Concurrent
file access using IBDrive Plus |
| |
IBDrive Plus lets multiple clients access and update the same file
while preventing file-sharing conflicts. It also supports aggressive
caching mechanisms, including read-ahead/write-behind without loss
of cache coherency. Additionally, users will be able to interact
with a file without downloading it to the local drive. Most other
Network Drive implementations implement a downloading process in
the background while you are interacting with a file. The difference
can easily be seen in large databases and files

Suggestions while using IBDrive as a collaboration tool |
| |
If you would like
to use IBDrive as a collaboration tool with more than one party accessing
the same data, make sure you uncheck 'cache files'and'cache directory
listing' options. This makes sure that all the parties see the current
picture of data. But please note that disabling file and directory
caching slows down the speed of access.
You can uncheck 'cache files' and 'cache directory listing' by right
clicking on IBDrive icon (that is present in the tray),select 'Program
settings'and click on Cache. Here you can find the options 'cache files'
and 'cache directory listings'. |

When
my mouse pointer hovers over a file in Windows Explorer, the download
dialog box appears and IBDrive downloads the file: why? |
| |
This is actually
a feature of Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer has the ability to
extract meta information from the file and display it in a small pop-up/tooltip
window when the mouse hovers over the item. This feature should be
disabled when using IBDrive.
To disable this feature, launch Windows Explorer and open the Folder
Options dialog. Next, disable the "Show pop-up description for
folder and desktop items Click OK to close the Folder Options dialog
and restart Windows. |

I
can edit an excel/word/access file, make changes, but errors on saving
the file..why? |
| |
This might be due
to the long file name of the file with some special characters. Please
rename it to a smaller name with no special characters, and try the
operation again. |
