   What is IBDrive ?

IBDrive is an IBackup application which when downloaded and installed will map an IBackup account as a network drive on the user's computer. Users can map, drag and drop files to their IBackup account from Windows explorer. It also allows users to open and save files stored in their IBackup accounts directly from their associated applications like Microsoft Office. IBDrive supports SSL encryption for data security.

   What is IBDrive Plus ?

IBDrive Plus
is an advanced Drive Mapping technology that can be used to do Concurrent Operations on a single file with most windows applications including Access and Excel.  IBDrive Plus supports advanced features including streaming and enabling third party applications.

Installing IBDrive Plus for Windows NT/2000/XP

Download and Install IBDrive Plus

Concurrent file access using IBDrive Plus

IBDrive Plus lets multiple clients access and update the same file while preventing file-sharing conflicts. It also supports aggressive caching mechanisms, including read-ahead/write-behind without loss of cache coherency. Additionally, users will be able to interact with a file without downloading it to the local drive. Most other Network Drive implementations implement a downloading process in the background while you are interacting with a file. The difference can easily be seen in large databases and files

   IBDrive Plus and Firewalls

IBDrive Plus may not work behind some firewalls.

If your computer is behind a firewall

Please ensure the firewall your are using allows access to site name ibdrive.com for proper IBDrive Plus functioning.

If you are using ZoneAlarm, follow these steps:

1. Open the main window of ZoneAlarm and select the Security tab.
2. Click the Advanced button.
3. Click the Add button and select Host/Site.
4. Enter "IBDrive" as the description and ibdrive.com as the host name
of the server.

For Zonealarm Pro, go to 'Security', 'Advanced' then select "Local Zone Contents", then add ibdrive.com.
Also please note to keep the security settings at medium or lower for the IBDrive application to passthrough.

How do I enable my IBDrive ‘log’ file?

IBDrive has a logging option, which can be enabled by going to Start->Programs->IBDrive, clicking on the "Settings" button, selecting the Logging tab and checking the options, "Enable File logging" and "VerboseLogging". The name of the log file appears in the dialog box.

How can I lock and unlock my files using IBDrive?

Locking and Unlocking a file is recommended if you need to do collaborative editing of a single file. This helps in preventing unwanted write overs on files in modification by other parties. A locked file can't be modified, deleted or renamed. However, it can be opened or copied. To lock a file using IBDrive:

1.Click or highlight on the file you wish to lock.
2.Right click on the file and select 'IBDrive'.
3.Now select 'Lock file' from 'IBDrive'which will lock your file.

To unlock a file using IBDrive:

1.Click or highlight on the file you wish to unlock.
2.Right click on the file and select 'IBDrive'.
3.Now select 'UnLock file' from 'IBDrive'which unlocks your file.

Suggestions while using IBDrive as a collaboration tool

If you would like to use IBDrive as a collaboration tool with more than one party accessing the same data, make sure you uncheck 'cache files'and'cache directory listing' options. This makes sure that all the parties see the current picture of data. But please note that disabling file and directory caching slows down the speed of access.
You can uncheck 'cache files' and 'cache directory listing' by right clicking on IBDrive icon (that is present in the tray),select 'Program settings'and click on Cache. Here you can find the options 'cache files' and 'cache directory listings'.

Which Network Drive application to choose IBDrive or IBDrive Plus, Why
 have two Network Drive Applications?

These two applications are based on different protocols, and each has advantages over the other. To cover the widest range of online network drive usage, we offer both. But first, please note that IBDrive Plus works only on 2000/XP, and may require firewall settings.

Browse files and folders - IBDrive is better due to its better file and directory caching.
Edit, Cut-n-Paste, Drag-n-Drop, Delete small files - IBDrive is faster.
Edit, Cut-n-Paste, Drag-n-Drop, Delete large files - IBDrive Plus is faster.
Concurrent updates to Office files - IBDrive Plus only
Locking and Unlocking files for collaborative work on a file - IBDrive only (as a right click option).
Streaming small Multi-Media files - IBDrive Plus is better.
Streaming large Multi-Media files - IBDrive Plus only, IBDrive would require a complete download before it can start streaming, IBDrive Plus can start instantaneously.
File Synchronization using third party applications - IBDrive Plus is better.
Backup using third party applications such as Veritas Backup - IBDrive Plus only

When my mouse pointer hovers over a file in Windows Explorer, the  download dialog box appears and IBDrive downloads the file: why?

This is actually a feature of Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer has the ability to extract meta information from the file and display it in a small pop-up/tooltip window when the mouse hovers over the item. This feature should be disabled when using IBDrive.

To disable this feature, launch Windows Explorer and open the Folder Options dialog. Next, disable the "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items Click OK to close the Folder Options dialog and restart Windows.

How do I delete the username and password from the login screen after logging out of IBDrive?

Once you finish accessing your IBackup account, disconnect IBDrive application and do the following:

1. Click on IBDrive application and when you get the Login menu, delete the Username and Password.
2. Click on "Close" button of the application.

I can edit an excel/word/access file, make changes, but errors on saving the file..why?

This might be due to the long file name of the file with some special characters. Please rename it to a smaller name with no special characters, and try the operation again.
